Lise Watier - Imagine

2014-03-30

Hi all,
On one of my recent trips to Shoppers I spied this blush almost hidden away with the Lise Watier display kind of shoved awkwardly on a shelf on top of the Clinique area. I don't know it was odd, but I saw it and I swatched it and I love it.

Can we first take a moment to appreciate this beautiful packaging. Its just so gorgeous and makes me very happy. I am such a sucker for packaging.

The design of the actual blush is what caught my eye in store. Its a pretty mosaic pattern with mostly light to medium pinks but theres also a deeper burgundy/cranberry/raspberry colour making the mosaic patter which I think adds something to the overall colour of the blush.

The left swatch above is in full on light, and for the right swatch I tilted my arm slightly so it was in the shadow. One of the things I love about this blush is no shimmer. Don't get me wrong I love me a bit of shimmer, but its not something I want all the time.

I wore this blush for a 7 hour work day and it stayed on all day, it may have faded a little through the day but it was definitely still hanging in there when I got home. I would recommend using a lighter application for this blush at least until you get a feel for the pigmentation. I was a little over zealous with application at first and then had to tone it down a bit.

You can get this blush from Shoppers (some stores could be out of stock by now) or online at lisewatier.com for $32 CAD.

Happy shopping

Maybelline Color Show - Blue Bombshell

2014-03-26

Hi all,
I recently picked up some new nail polish at Walmart (read: I bought 10 new polishes) and a few of what I picked up were from the Maybelline Color Show line. Retailing for $2.96 I figured if these ended up being good they'd be an absolute bargain. So far I've tried out two and already learned that not all the colours are created equal ( I will be talking about Pretty in Peach at the end of this post)
Blue bombshell (#335) is this gorgeous blue shade that is pretty bright but not overwhelmingly so (at least I don't think so). It was actually the exact colour I went out looking for so I was pretty stoked when I found it.

The formula for both the polishes I've tried so far have been quite thick. I was worried it would cause bubbling because in order to get a good application I did have to apply a lot of polish all at once. For this blue colour it wasn't a problem at all. Went on thick but no bubbles in sight.

I used two coats but you could get away with one if you wanted. Because it applies so thick it does take a while to dry.. so don't drink a bunch of tea before you paint your nails and then end up having to go to the bathroom a ton while you wait for them to dry (a lesson I've been taught many times but can never seem to remember).

As for staying power, one of my nails got a large chip about 2 days in which did not please me, but I repainted that nail and after that the rest lasted for about 5 days without chipping.

Overall for the less than $3 price tag I definitely think you get a good polish, not the best ever but definitely good.

However, I have also tried Pretty in Peach (#115) and it was not as good as this polish. I won't be doing a separate on it, all I have to say about this polish is the formula was the same but streaked much more on this colour than Blue Bombshell. It also bubbled a little bit (not a lot, but more than none) and over all was just not the nicest polish to work with, I needed 3 coats even though they were all thick. It's still cheaper than China Glaze's Sun of a Peach which is nearly identical in colour and exhibited many of the same issues with application as this polish. So if you really want a bright peach, may as well go for this one as its only $3.

Coach Spring Discount - Tristen Watch

2014-03-24

Hi all,
Currently Coach has a sale going on. If you like their Facebook page and provide them with your information you'll get a 1 time 25% off coupon with barcode for in store use, and online code if you want to purchase through their website - better hurry, the coupon is only valid until March 27th.

I saw this and thought EXCELLENT I need a new handbag (no I don't) so I popped into the coach store and had a browse around and left with.. a watch. Not a handbag I didn't need, instead I got a watch, which I also didn't need but I have wanted a gold watch with a blue face for literally 2 years and I just couldn't help myself.

I love this watch. What more can you really say about a watch. It effectively tells the time, it has three smaller dials inside, one for day of the week, one for date, and one for 24 hour time. Its not too big, or too small. Its not too blingy (i don't like heavily bejewelled watches) but the numbers except for the 12 are crystals which I like.

That's all I have to say about that. Now go get yourself 25% off.

Clinique - Cheek Pop Blushes

2014-03-22

Hi all,
My name is Miranda. And I'm a blush-a-holic. Keep reading for my thoughts on the Clinique pop blushes.

These blushes have been sold out at my local Sephoras as well as Sephora online. Luckily The Bay recently got their stock in and I was able to pick up 3 of them. Unfortunately they were already out of Peach Pop

I love the packaging of these blushes and the flower detailing of the actual blush itself. They're small and compact (measuring 2in/5cm in diameter and 3/4 of an inch/ nearly 2cm tall) so they'd be great choices to bring with you on a holiday as they wouldn't take up much room. As well the packaging seem really sturdy so the likelihood of them dropping and smashing seems very small (don't take my word for it though! Be careful, treat them with love)

Heavy swatches of berry, ginger and plum pop
Light and far away swatches of ginger, berry and plum pop

On the last sets of swatches here I had to apply more plum pop because it did not appear like it was showing up (at least in the preview of my camera):
Set 1 is ginger, berry and plum pop with the original amount of product swatches
Set 2 is the same swatch for ginger and berry, but with a heavier application of plum pop
Set 3 i turned my hand to reflect the light differently putting ginger into a shadowed position and plum out of the shadow into the light to get a better send of what the blushes looked like int he different lights.

I like these blushes a lot. Looking at the swatches in real life and now on my computer I don't think the second application of plum pop was necessary. Between Berry and Plum pop in some lights it's hard to tell the difference between the two and in others its very easy.

The only one I have actually used is ginger pop and I like it very much. It look nice in natural light and I especially like it in a more yellow toned light you get from some light bulbs. Initially just looking at them it was my least favourite of all four, but it has won me over (that may be because its the only one I've used)

I did notice that when I leaned my face on my watch some of the blush transferred from my cheek to my watch. I had no primer or setting spray on today so that might be something you'll want to use to try and avoid that transfer.

Overall I like these blushes and if you can get your hands on one I would suggest picking it up (maybe not all three though, I didn't even need to do that.. and yet I did)

Shoppers Drug Mart - Spring Beauty Bonus

2014-03-08

Hi all,
It's spring! Not really. In most of Canada March means it's still cold and snowy and gross but some days its less horrible. March does mean Spring Beauty Bonus time at shoppers! In order to qualify for this bonus you must spend $125 on cosmetics. They claim this beauty bag has a value of over $300 and below you can find a list of items and the total approximate value of everything in the bag.

Personally I don't think I would have purchased the $125 worth of items if it had not also been a spend your points even, in which I spent $85 worth of points (50,000) and got $85 removed from my bill and also got a $15 "gift card" to shoppers. You have to watch these cards though because they have expiration dates and if you don't use them in time you're out of luck.
Please excuse the lighting, the sun did that thing there where it leaves the sky and outside becomes dark
Following is a list of everything in the bag with its size followed by its approximate value (in CAD)

Lancome La vie est belle (4ml) - $9.60 - however mine leaked over a bunch of my other stuff so there isn't actually a full 4ml in there anymore
Biotherm Skin-Best Serum-InCream (5ml) - $10.33
Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus (15ml, quoted at being  2 week supply) - $29.50
Clarins New Super Resportative Day AST (5ml) - $10.20
Prevage Anti-Aging Daily Serum (5ml) - 15.90
Lancome Advanced Genifique (8ml) - $16-25
Benefit BigEasy Multibalancing Complexion Perfection (3ml) - $3.20 - I got the shade 01 Fair which should be okay for me however you do not get to pick what shade you get
LipFusion Deluxe Double Ended Duo (4.4g) - $18.00 - This would be full size HOWEVER I seem to be missing mine so I am not going to be counting that towards my total end value
Lise Watier Lift and Firm 3D Day (2ml) and Night (2ml) creme - $2.48 and $2.88
Shiseido Pureness Oil-Control Blotting paper (10 sheets) - $2.00
Strivectn Advanced Retinol Night (7ml) - 15.26
In pamphlet listed as : Double ended Juicy Couture Rollerball (5ml) and Juicy couture La La rollerball (5ml) would be $30.00  - I actually received a 10ml Juicy Couture La La Rollerball - $30.00
St Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Lotion Face (5ml) - $3.80
Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara (4ml) - $8.10
Nuxe Nuxellence Jeunesse (15ml) - $22.50
Lab Series Multi-Action Face Wash (30ml) - $7.20
Vichy Liftactiv Advanced Concentrate (5ml) - $9.16
Bio Beaute by Nuxe Micellar Cleansing Water with Orange Water (30ml) - Can't find price - worth between $2.00 and $5.00 I think
NeoStrata Youth Factor GF Total Regenerating Serum (7ml) - $18.20
Vitabath Moisturizing Bath and Shower Gelee (60g) - $3.48
Bioderma Sensibo H20 (100ml) - $6.95
Total Value of Products: $228.29 CAD (remember you're would be $18 more if you did in fact receive the lip gloss)
You also get a 20x the point coupon to be used between March 22 and April 4th

And don't forget you also get the clutch everything comes in - which I think it's very nice and it's pretty well the reason I decided to spend the money in the first place. However I don't think its worth $50-70 so you can decide if the spring bonus lives up to its worth $300 claim.

So my conclusion? Personally I won't be using a bunch of stuff that comes in the bag so do I think it's worth the $125 to get it. However I do think it was worth the $40-something dollars I ended up paying after using my points.

Motivation

2014-03-02

So I know everyone goes through phases where they just don't have a lot of motivation to get anything accomplished. But lately (and when I say lately I mean for months really) I have had such a seriously lack of motivation to not only accomplish things but just do anything in general.

I think it started when I realized I really have no idea what I want to do with my life. The job I am currently at ends at the end of April and I have to find a new one for May (by rules of my co-op program) but I do not want to. I don't want to get a new job, I don't want this job, I don't really want to go back to school (but I do in the sense that it takes me one step closer to being done school). Then after that I have no idea.

I have decided to go travel. I need a break. Once I realized I didn't know what I was doing with my life I figured out I could actually take some time to enjoy it. Everything has been so go go go since high school. Graduate, go to university, graduate university, go to med school (the plan I had at the time) and then that would be it. I'd have my career the rest of my life would be planned out.

Until I realized I didn't know if I wanted to go to med school. Or vet school. Or law school. Or any of the option I had previously considered. Now I am thinking, maybe I want to be a teacher (I really liked high school biology, and I like teaching people things) and that would certainly be a lot cheaper to accomplish.

Just thinking about all this is dizzying, especially when at the present moment I can barely make myself get out of bed to walk my dog. Which I will do now. Or soon.

I just want to stay in bed all day (every day) and eat and watch TV and go on the internet. Is that so wrong?
